National Indigenous Peoples Day – June 21

20 Jun 2024

Annually, June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples’ Day (NIPD).

With the arrival of June 21 comes the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Indigenous people acknowledge the teachings of the four seasons by their representation on the medicine wheel. Summer is a time of growth and warmth. National Indigenous Peoples Day provides an opportunity to acknowledge the many achievements and contributions of the country’s Indigenous peoples, grow in awareness and understanding, and build relationships as people come together to celebrate the culture of Indigenous people.

The Midwifery Regulatory Council of Nova Scotia (MRCNS) acknowledges the history, heritage, traditions and experiences of Nova Scotia’s Mi’kma’ki, people and that of the Indigenous, Inuit and Metis communities throughout Canada.
